Artist Statement
Some say life moves fast and it’s hard to keep up with it. I say life moves slowly, but we rush our journey through it. Certain images, experiences, and emotions alter the journey; speeding it up or slowing it down. It is these occurrences in our life we think of when we take the time to contemplate our souls, character, goals, etc. because they are a substantial part of who we are. Art is one of the few things that allows me to tap into these issues in a peaceful, constructive way.
My creative process has helped me to realize that my memories, imagination, and thoughts are mentally wrapped around landscape concepts. In addition, it is nature that evokes my interest, emotion, and empathy. I also believe natural images speak more coherently to a public that needs to contemplate the same issues I am addressing (emotions, inspiration, deep thoughts, etc).
Therefore, my work centers on inner landscapes – realistic, composite, abstracted, and imaginary. They all reflect the pieces that construct my soul and inner places. Through my artwork, I express myself while communicating ideas that viewers can also evaluate for themselves. Perhaps they can become parts of your consciousness…your inner landscape…
